Afternoon Photo Walk, central London

My go to for a pleasant walk - where I can get good street photography in London - you ask?

Definitely start from Waterloo Station. Walk towards the Southbank Centre, and from there you follow the Thames to the Millennium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Not only you can walk down the steps to the river bed if the tide is low, which I did a couple times, you have breathtaking views of the London Eye, the City of London, St Paul’s cupola, bridges, the Tate, the Shard, and the Tower Bridge in the distance (from the Millennium Bridge).

I finished a roll of film in less than 2 hours… boy isn’t this gonna be expensive… the roll was expired, but I hope I’ll get good shots either way.

The brutalist architecture of the National Theatre

After I got a few shots along the river I got to the Millennium Bridge, I crossed it (all the photos here are on the Minolta, so I’ll post them once it’s developed), and got to St Paul’s, where I finished the roll with a couple portrait shots of the Cathedral at the Reflection Garden, on 25 Cannon Street.

Roll finished, loaded a new one, but put my camera back in my backpack to avoid temptation, and carried on with the Canon RP.

The light wasn’t the best one yesterday, but I could see some streaks of blue in the sky, so that made me feel hopeful. (Never mind, it’s grey again today…).

I walked around Cannon Street and One New Change and I’m not entirely unhappy with what I got:

I then walked into One New Change (and you still cannot access the roof terrace!), and instead of taking the classic shot of St Paul’s cupola reflected on the windows of the shopping centre (I have like a million of them, and would rather a different light), I got this one of the doorman of The Ivy:

His read coat was something else.

What do you think? I isolated his coat and the light red reflection on the street, I love that rose gold in contrast with the greys.

I then walked back towards the church, it was getting darker and colder (at one point I just stopped to put on an extra layer), and I kinda wanted to go back home, but the atmosphere had something electric in it, it was past 5 and people was getting out of their offices, they had smiles on their faces, and the couple trees in bloom in front of the church certainly helped the overall good mood of and end-of-work-and-spring-is-not-far-away feeling.

‘90s vibe in this shot

Girls were having their picture taken under the trees in bloom

So in the end I sat on one of the benches and took shots of passers-by, with the granite (or is it marble) of St Paul’s as a backdrop.

I think in the end it was a productive exercise, and went home quite happy. I now cannot wait to develop the film. Keep your fingers crossed!

With love,
